Services The freedom of life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a basic right to us all. And,
it is this basic principle which rests at the core of our Residential
Services program. Our clients have access to a traditional home environment
that is best aligned with their needs and preferences. BLDC through its
Residential Services, offers two levels of Assisted Living and Supported
Living. In the Assisted Living Program, individuals are aided in attaining
independence through guidance and training. As skills are acquired, individuals
may advance to the Supported Independent Living Program. The ultimate goal of the Residential Services program is heightened self-sufficiency to the fullest extent possible. For some, the goal may be total independent living while for others it may be moving from an institutional setting into a community-based residential home, with 24-hour care. Big Lakes currently provides a variety of residential alternatives based on individual needs and choices. Growth opportunities for residential services are continually evaluated. Individuals from (or who originate from) our 4-county service area receive priority for Big Lakes Residential Services. If space is not presently available, individuals can be placed on a waiting list for future openings. Program participants must be 18 years of age and must meet other admission criteria. Respite Care Periodically, those providing care to another individual will seek out respite care services to free themselves from the constant demands of caregiving for a brief period of time. Big Lakes provides respite care for adults (age 16 and over) who live with parents or other caregivers. Site
