Direct Support Professional Week is a national celebration held each September to show appreciation for the hard work and support our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide to our clients every day. At Big Lakes, this week is one of our favorite ways to celebrate our team and recognize the impact they make in the lives of others. The theme for this year was “Nacho Average DSP Week.”
We kicked off things on Sunday in a sweet way, with boxes of sugary, delicious churros delivered to our group homes. These treats came from Endulza Tu Momento, a local small business known for their custom cakes and authentic Hispanic desserts.
On Monday, staff picked up their free t-shirts and visited the break room to read notes from management, reminding them that their hard work does not go unnoticed. We also hosted “Big Money Monday,” where we handed out $50 and $100 cash prizes every hour!
We started Tuesday bright and early with a catered breakfast from Radina’s, fueling our team for the day ahead. We also had other breakfast items like juices, yogurts, and fresh fruit available.
On Wednesday, excitement hit a new level as the Chiefs personally delivered envelopes containing a postcard and $50, along with candy and other goodies. Staff also enjoyed additional mini-games in the afternoon to win extra chocolate and Big Lakes merchandise.
Thursday brought more fun with a new build-your-own basket giveaway every hour. Winners received $50 in gift cards and handpicked items to create their custom gift basket. The day also featured our highly competitive Dip Showdown, where staff shared their best homemade dip recipes. Winners walked away with trophies and bragging rights while sharing their winning recipes.
We wrapped up on Friday with a catered Chipotle lunch, giving everyone a chance to relax and enjoy some good food. It was the perfect way to close out the week. We are deeply grateful for our incredible Direct Support Professionals at Big Lakes and thank them all for the dedication, compassion, and heart they bring every day.
